NOCTURNAL BOTANICA - BY BERNARD WOLF

This beautiful collection of evening-themed photographs was on display in the musuem’s downstairs gallery from  June 3, through July 2, 2023.

Shot primarily in the Venice/Santa Monica area, “Nocturnal Botanica” considers the cultivated trees and shrubbery that line city streets and boulevards, the often over-looked fixtures of the municipal landscape.

Captured with long exposures using only available light, the sometimes bedraggled, sometimes meticulously pruned forms, emerge as sculptural objects that seem to glow in the night. The aesthetic created brings a sensation that this flora, on these Southern California streets, was chosen and positioned by a fastidious urban curator.

Based in Santa Monica, California, Bernard Wolf is a mostly self-taught photographer whose career spans over 30 years. He currently works as a freelance commercial photographer specializing in architecture, portraits, and products, as well as sustaining a fine art photography studio.
