Arte Chicano Hecho en Los Angeles

"Arte Chicano Hecho en Los Angeles" is a retrospective look at the beginning of Chicano artwork in L.A. county, its artists, and growth over the past five decades.

With the establishment of the first Chicano art gallery (Mechicano Art Center) in 1969 in East Los Angeles, Chicano artists initiated a collective reimagining of the urban landscape through such media as photography, graphic arts, murals, painting, and sculpture. These artists harnessed their work as part of a social protest and community empowerment movement.

Artists included within this exhibition are: "Los Four" (Carlos Amaraz, Gilbert "Magu" Lujan, Frank Romero, Roberto De La Rocha), Gronk, Patsy Valdez, Barbara Carrasco, Carment Lopez Garza, Alma Lopez, Sergio Vasquez, Roberto Gutierrez, Joseph Gagnon, Jose Lozano, Margaret Garcia, Leo Limon, Raul Guerrero, Danny Alonzo, Judy Baca, Alberto Oropeza, John Valadez, and J. Micheal Walker among others.
